THE PROBLEM

Prior to the implementation of IFMIS, the Government of Ethiopia lacked an integrated Public Financial Management system, leading to inefficiencies, lack of transparency, and difficulties in budgeting and expenditure management across various government entities.

THE SOLUTION

The implementation of IFMIS aimed to address these challenges by providing standardized processes across public bodies, supporting the generation of accurate and timely financial information, and establishing a single source of information for decision-making in public finance matters. Leveraging Oracle ERP technology and Oracle Supercluster hardware, IFMIS streamlined processes and improved financial management efficiency.

THE IMPACT

The rollout of IFMIS across 156 federal sites resulted in increased availability of comprehensive financial information, improved budgetary control, enhanced economic forecasting, planning, and budgeting, and more efficient service delivery to citizens. The system also addressed limitations of the previous financial system, supported property administration, fixed asset management, procurement, and payroll functions. Capacity building initiatives ensured effective utilization of IFMIS across public bodies, contributing to improved financial management practices nationwide.
